Measuring Sustainability throughout the crop supply chain is gaining more press than ever, and at the forefront of the movement is the Stewardship Index For Specialty Crops. PMA (Produce Marketing Association), the leader in global trade and produce marketing, featured the Stewardship Index in their recent newsletter dated January 6, 2009.
JVF Consulting, the leading bay area web design company, has been behind the scenes ensuring the launch of the new Stewardship Index website went flawlessly. Now the power of sustainability will enable operators at any point along the supply chain to benchmark, compare, and communicate their own performance. With this technology the Stewardship Index can address the unique needs of the specialty crop industry while improving environmental and social impacts.
Below is a screen shot of the Produce Marketing Association newsletter that referenced the Stewardship Index article. We look forward to sharing all the good press about our friends at the Stewardship Index For Specialty Crops!

With the new year finally here, the JVF team has been hearing all types of tech resolutions for 2009. So far it seems like the majority of all the resolutions are all "Green" related. So what exactly does 2009 hold for us? Maybe some of the following resolutions will spur some ideas that will help shape your IT department or web technology team.
Take control of your energy waste. There are plenty of steps companies can take to reduce power costs. Implementing PC power management is by far the leader. There are numerous products out there designed to put inactive machines into low-power mode when they're not in use. After all, there's no good reason to leave your computers and monitors on if they're not doing any useful work.
Travel less as a company. I'm not talking about the daily commute here, I'm talking about our air miles and business trips. Thankfully it is not our technology we need to be worried about when going green, but rather the degree of mobility. With videoconferencing and the new features of GoToMeeting, there is no need for complicated journey's to meetings abroad. Thanks to new technology reducing our carbon footprint has dynamic effects on our sustainability.
Recycle everything! With Yahoo! Green you will find lots of helpful information right at your fingertips. With so many recycling guides and helpful tips, staying up to date with everything green is a snap.
Practice green techniques. From energy reduction, to reducing the use of toxic materials, save both the environment and money by becoming more conscious of the products you use every day. What's good for the planet, is good for business in 2009!
These New Year's resolutions are meant to help your organization rein control while saving money in the process. Most resolutions require minor changes in lifestyle that might effect some bad habits. Although difficult at times, the end results should prove worthwhile, and perhaps help set the stage for more efficiency down the road.

The team at JVF Consulting is getting quite anxious for
Santa Claus to
arrive this year. With some of our friends and family stationed
overseas,
we want to ensure Santa has a safe journey visiting everyone,
everywhere. Thanks to several agencies, forces have joined together to
provide an international
tracking of Santa's flight around the world which takes place on December 24th 2008.
With their
latest technology NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), who normally
watches out for airborne threats to the national security of the United States
and Canada, has expanded its mission to tracking the safe voyage of Santa on Christmas
Eve. With all the attention on Santa, we hope they still keep their eye out for rogue missiles.
Before such high tech tracking devices people used to track Santa Claus by
satellite, and by the weather conditions of the North Pole. Following any unusual
activity, such as Santa in flight, used to be tedious work until now.

With the end of fourth quarter ending soon, many businesses find themselves in the midst of reviewing the past eleven months, and budgeting for the coming year. Obviously, the end product of the budgeting process is to look ahead, and usually a valuable lesson is learned while re-examining what already occurred. Learning from the successes and challenges of the past will help you plan accordingly in the new year.
Advertising spending for the first quarter of 2009 is expected to reach new highs as the cash cows stray away from print media, and invest in their presence on the world wide web. During this same period last year, gains in ad spending for print media increased in magazines while newspapers continued to decline, this fad is still rolling strong according to figures released by Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
Budgeting your advertising dollars effectively through these times of economic uncertainty is a necessity. The current economic climate brings with it a few realities most businesses don't want to accept. Using a well thought out budget, in conjunction with effective online marketing and media plans will succeed in keeping more dollars in your pocket, and increases the likelihood your advertising will be effective.
Now's your chance to make 2008 a better year for marketing your business. Take some time to review 2008, set your goals, and look ahead to the future. So put your plan in motion, and let the JVF Consulting lead the way in your 2009 annual budget.
