STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Blue Screen During Install Of Windows XP

windowsxpbluescreenOver the weekend I helped remove Windows Vista from my friends Dell Latitude E4300. Since all the drivers were offered on their support site I downloaded the SATA driver, merged the driver into Windows XP SP2 using nLite, then started the reinstallation process. Just after copying files to the hard drive the laptop would crash into a blue screen with the following error;  STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). After scouring the web for fixes and trying many things that didn’t work, I finally came across a fix that allowed me to fully install Windows XP Pro SP2 onto a Dell Latitude E4300.

I resolved the stop issue by the following these steps.

1. During start up, when you see the Dell logo, press F2 to enter the BIOS

2. Expand the “Drives” section

3. Go to “SATA Operation”

4. Change this from “RAID AHCI” to “RAID ATA”

5. Exit BIOS saving changes

I have setup a new 500gb toshiba SATA 2 hard drive to run dual boot.
Windows XP pro 32bit and windows 64bit.
Unable to install XP pro, just goes into error and blue screen.
I’ve removed the hard drive and placed it in my Packard Bell, loaded XP pro 32bit and win 8 64bit with no problem, and both run fine.
Removed the hard drive from the packard bell laptop and place it back into the HP g6-1278sa, dual boot screen on start up.
Options windows 8 or earlier windows.
    Windows 8 works fine.
Windows XP pro starts to load and then we get the blue screen with error message.
I’ve look at my advanced settings in the bios but nothing about Sata drives?

Go into BIOS and advanced settings and select your sata hard drive or something with AHCI. change that to compatibility or something similar and you should be off to XP in no time!

  • Meryem Gayhan

Hello,i have the same pc and Problem.Did you Find any Solution, can you share please?i did try to Check sony’s web page but couldnt manage it.Thank you.

  • YegorT

Garrett, thank you soooooo much – it worked!!!!!:))))
The E4300 laptop was not used for couple of months and then it had the same error.
In my case solution was a bit different: E4300 had a Solid State Drive so “SATA Operation” had to be “AHCI” but because the laptop was not used for couple of months “SATA Operation” switched by itself to “IRRT”. It looks like BIOS battery is dead that is why “SATA Operation” switched to “IRRT” by itself.

  • manavk are saviour..this ahci to compatibility mode change in Lenovo ThinkPad edge worked for me.
